Hatch+Ulland Owen Architects’ M Station Wins Envision’s Community Stewardship Award
Hatch + Ulland Owen Architects (H+UOA) is pleased to announce that M Station, the recently-completed multi-family community designed by the firm, has been awarded a prestigious Community Stewardship Award from Envision Central Texas, at their luncheon held Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Austin.
The Community Stewardship Awards are presented by Envision Central Texas (ECT) to recognize and honor innovative people, projects and processes which address growth and the challenges facing the Central Texas region in ways that will ensure our quality of life. ECT recruited some of the country’s leading experts in planning, transportation and green space to be jurors. Their decisions were based on how the projects exemplified or reflected the Envision Central Texas Vision, as well how the project impacted the community in which it occurred. M Station was the jurors’ choice for best New Development from a field of highly-qualified nominees.
M Station is a vibrant community designed for working families with low to moderate incomes and has also earned one of the U.S. Green Building Council’s highest scoring LEED Platinum ratings for multi-family housing. LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building, home or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at achieving high performance in key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
Also the recipient of the Austin Business Journal’s 2012 Social Impact Award, M Station was designed by Hatch + Ulland Owen with Sunshine Mathon of Foundation Communities and built by Bailey Elliott Construction and is the newest of Foundation Communities’ first class affordable home projects. “We are honored that M Station received the Community Stewardship Award and are very proud of the project, the needed housing it provides, its LEED Platinum certification and our relationship with the outstanding Foundation Communities and Bailey Elliott Construction teams.” noted Tom Hatch.
Bailey Elliott Construction (BEC) is a full service commercial general contractor located in Austin, and has been a leader in commercial general contracting throughout the Central Texas region for four decades. The firm has extensive experience in construction management and expertise in ground-up, renovation and interior finish construction. BEC has three LEED A.P. certified personnel on its management team and is well versed in green building and environmental protection.
