PROJECTS

Dogwood West Renovation, Austin, Texas

The owners of this popular dining and drinking establishment sought to refresh the look of their well visited West Sixth Street location while meeting an abbreviated schedule in order to be ready for the SXSW conference and music festival . h+uo architects, in collaboration with Meredith Owen Interiors, were tasked with providing a contemporary interior and exterior face lift of the materials, finishes and color palette for the bar and dining areas while Mike Harrelson with HC Construction managed construction with attention to detail while maintaining a tight schedule.

New stone veneer replaced dated, dark slate and paint chosen from a brighter color palette along with new light fixtures brings the building's interior and exterior facade in harmony with the new construction of downtown Austin. The interior bar and dining area floor was sanded and refinished to provide a fresh look but preserve the character of the original building and the previous ceiling finish was removed to expose the structure and give the room a feeling of spaciousness. Painted wood tiles by local wood artisan Ingrained by Nature front the face of the bar to complement the color of the new wallpaper on surrounding walls and new tile back splash behind the bar. A new elevated nook with "porch swing" seating was created to add to the southern charm of The Dogwood.
